Primarily responsible for operational management, training, and quality assurance in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Manages staff and oversees all aspects of Adelante Healthcare WIC programs. Position plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates the services provided by the WIC program.

  • Four (4) year college degree in Nutrition or Education or equivalent work

experience AND greater than five (5) years experiences in clinical or

community nutrition program management, including staff supervision

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Documented excellence in customer service with ability to interact with and instruct employees from beginner to advanced levels
  • Demonstrate competency in nutrition education methods and techniques
  • Working knowledge of current Microsoft Office applications and relevant program-related applications
  • Competency in working with people of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Evidence of valid Arizona drivers license and current auto insurance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to oversee subordinates and implement mentoring relationships
  • WIC program requirements including the nutrition assessment process and acceptable anthropometric measurement practices

  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations


  • Demonstrated experience as an Advocate for Health Care or Human Rights.
  • Prefer fluency in a language in addition to English (Spanish preferred).

  • Develops Local agency policies, procedures, or guidelines that pertain to nutrition services (e.g., nutrition assessment, nutrition education, food package prescriptions, and job descriptions)
  • Hires, orients, and trains new certifying staff.
  • Facilitates regularly occurring staff meetings and conducts staff in-services on relevant topics as needed.
  • Participates in continuing education activities related to nutrition, breastfeeding and supervision.
  • Supervises WIC certifying staff, which includes managing WIC schedule, assuring smooth clinic flow and excellent customer service, providing technical assistance as needed, performing regular evaluations and coaching, promoting staff retention and reporting concerns to the WIC Director and Site Supervisor
  • Participate in quality assurance and integrity, monitoring and performance improvement (PI), including, but not limited to, assisting with the development of WIC procedures and policies
  • Oversees food and formula prescriptions and coordinates with medical providers as appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for routine office matters: filing, scheduling appointments, maintain security for files and drafts, and submit reports on time
  • Collaborates with WIC Supervisor and Agency Coordinators to develop local agency training schedule including new employee training, ongoing training and mentoring, and nutrition in-services to local agency staff who provide nutrition services to participants
  • Participates in local and state workgroups to improve nutrition and program services
  • Assists with the development and management of the nutrition services budget and purchasing of nutrition materials
  • Correctly collect specimens, perform testing, and processes as indicated.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
