POSITION SUMMARY

The Controller will deliver valuable services to ensure financials are accurately stated and in compliance with all requirements. This position is responsible for the management of all day-to-day accounting functions, including but not limited to, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, general ledger, and grant/project accounting. This includes management of month end and year end close, account reconciliations and oversight for all grant, fundraising and project accounting.  This position requires strong accounting, reporting, analytical competencies, strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.  The Controller is responsible for the ERP system to ensure proper and timely capture of financial and statistical data.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or degree with a strong accounting curriculum. 
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in general accounting, including full-charge accounting through month-end closing / year-end and financial statement preparation
  • Three (3) years’ experience in staff supervision.
  • Three (2) to five (5) years of healthcare experience.
  • Valid CPA License
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Excellent customer service with ability to interact with all levels of staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Competency in working with people of various cultures
  • Evidence of valid Arizona driver’s license and current auto insurance
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Prioritization and multi-task skills are required
  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations

 

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL:

Personnel / Performance Management          

  • Provide problem solving, conflict resolution, and crisis management as needed or partner with appropriate support to resolve
  • Supervision of accounting, payroll, payables, purchasing and other assigned staff
  • Management of timecards, performance reviews and disciplinary action for direct reports
  • Provide clear and accurate guidance to staff and others as needed.
  • Provide ongoing training to staff and holds direct reports accountable for accuracy, timeliness.
  • Manage and evenly distributes workload to direct reports
  • Assure compliance with FMLA, Workers Compensation, ADA, and disciplinary documentation procedures

 

Finance/Accounting

  • Month end and year end close – ensuring all accounts are properly stated and reconciled in a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP and FASB
  • Grant, project, and contract accounting oversight – ensures accounting is accurate, reconciled monthly and in compliance with all requirements. 
  • Ensure all schedules are kept up to date and reconciled monthly.
  • Prepare, verify, and control the entering of journal entries to the general ledger.  Needs to have a strong understanding of each journal entry to ensure accuracy and serve as back for team as needed.
  • Complete balance sheet and income statement analysis prior to finalizing close
  • Responsible for managing annual audits including but not limited to coordination of tasks and deliverables and discussions with auditors.  
  • Review and update monthly closing procedures as needed
  • Review accounts payable aging and vendor statements addressing any problem areas
  • Review and document present accounting practices and procedures
  • Maintain all budget and invoice information required by grant programs.
  • Assist the CFO, and other members of the organization in the preparation of periodic miscellaneous reports and surveys for senior officials, government units, and yearend audit work papers
  • Manage all tax related filings including exception filings
  • Assist with management of banking relationships and merchant accounts
  • Assist with organizational budgeting process

 

NONESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Certification as Public Accountant or Management Accountant (CPA; CMA)

Work environment:   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
